Magnesium and Matcha

Magnesium - the Silent U.S. Epidemic

Magnesium is one of the most essential minerals needed by the body, but the body does not produce magnesium therefore it must come from external sources such as supplementation and food. Most people think of magnesium and bone health which is just one fraction of why magnesium is so important! This mineral actually helps to activate over 300 enzymes, the catalyst for every function in the body. Studies Show that the average American diet provides less than 50% of the RDA, and that over 30% of the population is deficient.

Unfortunately it is even more difficult to get magnesium from food in this day and age because the soil is so depleted of all minerals ... even organic foods and organic soil is lacking in essential minerals such as magnesium. Decades ago people could ensure they were getting enough magnesium through beans, grains, nuts and seeds but nowadays that is not enough.  Unless you are bringing in another source of magnesium, you will most likely be deficient.

Just a few symptoms of Magnesium Deficiency:

  • Irregular heart rhythm's,
  • muscle spasms,
  • anxiety,
  • insomnia,
  • fatigue,
  • headaches,
  • hypertension,
  • osteoporosis and even
  • cognitive function.

For those who love matcha you will be happy to know that this amazing plant is a great absorbable source of magnesium. Be aware though that matcha wITH a pale or very faded green color; non-organic; and is not a deep green color, will have very little magnesium. One special unique Quality about Got Matcha's matcha is that it is grown at the base of Mount Fiji in volcanic soil which is more rich in minerals than any other soil. Therefore the leaves are a deep green and the more Chlorophyll, the more magnesium and dark green color the matcha has!!

Magnesium is crucial to so many different bio chemical systems in the body and even protects again various diseases.

The best thing we can do to help our body reach and maintain our magnesium requirement is to eat organic, (the foods listed above), organic matcha and if you feel you are low you can actually use topical magnesium oils or lotions or even bathe in magnesium salt.  You can also use magnesium supplementation.

Note:  try to avoid acidic caffeine such as coffee and black tea, soda, added sugar and alcohol.

Hope this helps this topic was something the team felt would be important to share with all of our customers and extended friends and family!!
